Texas Chainsaw 3D/2D
Plot Synopsis, Review
Heather is on her way to Texas with some friends to collect an inheritence from a family member she never knew. When she arrives, everything seems perfect, but she soon discovers things are not what they seem.
I viewed this in 2D.
Dissapointing. I was pumped for this movie ever since they announced it. I respect the original films, but the remake and 2006 prequel are in my top 10 all-time film. This film is a direct sequel to the 1974 film, and the opening sequence clarifies this. A shoutout happens and fast forward to the (my guess is the 90's) where the film takes place, and thats where it starts to go donwhill fast. We meet the characters, they pick up a hitchhiker (familiar?) and enter the mansion Heather has inherited. The movie from that point just becomes and absolute mess. Sloppy script, ridiculous characters force the film to take a cliched and all-too-familiar approach. The ending is probably one of the most ridiculous horror endings of the last few years, and thats being generous.
The main section of this film takes place in an unspecified era, but with the lead character Heather probably being in her 20s i'd say the film takes place in the 90s. The film gives many throwbacks to the original Chain Saw, but it's lack of originality makes the film feel more like a remake than a sequel. The main character of Heather is duller than greylead pencil. For someones who's friends have been possibly butchered to death with a chainsaw, she is really unphased and doesn't really take notice, even when she's being attacked by good old Leatherface. Again, the ending was horrible. How lazy and riduclous to screenwriters need to be?. Seriously.
The acting was below average. Alexandra Daddario was dull as protagonist Heather. Tania Raymonde was the typical whore friend, no acting needed by anyone to play a role like that. Chuck in a crap rapper Trey Songz and you've got a bunch of relatively no-name actors in a try-too-hard campy throwback that doesn't work.
Overall Texas Chainsaw is a bland and unoriginal sequel to the 1974 classic that for some started the hardcore horror genre. Ridiculous acting, plot and characters dissapoint a film that reall had the potential to stand out from the series but still having a strong connection to the franchise. My rating is 1.5/5.
